Enjoy our Historic Downtown and numerous parks, see Lock 33 along the 3000 foot boardwalk of the Trent- Severn Waterway. You’ll find it’s a place for a lifetime a place for a visit. You can hike or bike on our senior-friendly trails. Walk the many streets of historic 19th and 20th century homes. In Lindsay you don’t really need a car because quite frankly, you can walk to just about anywhere you need to be. We do of course have bus and taxi service in town as well.
There's always something to do in the Lindsay area
In a way I’m inclined to call Lindsay a senior’s service centre because what ever you could possibly want is probably just around the corner. The Lindsay Parks & Recreation Complex is a state of the art facility with two ice pads, two swimming pools, squash courts, and a two storey fitness centre. Seniors love this facility for aquatics including AQUAFIT - a program for fitness training in the pool, aerobics, yoga, fitness equipment, skating, and a wide range of leisure programs. There are parks and trails galore to keep you in shape. Check with the Lindsay Seniors Club for a further variety of offerings within Lindsay. If you’re someone who likes to volunteer, there’s a wide variety of positions available here. This is an especially good way to meet people and make new friends.
Kawartha Lakes Public Library has its main library in Lindsay and I want you to know it is really a good senior oriented library. Check it out at kawarthalakeslibrary.com.
Lindsay has an Exceptional Care Hospital that our senior citizens are proud of. ROSS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL is only minutes away from anywhere in Lindsay. COMMUNITY CARE provides a variety of support services here as well. You’ll be well taken care of here in Lindsay.
You’re welcome to join and will really enjoy your time at the Lindsay & District Horticultural Society. The annual single membership is only $20. There’s a variety of activities waiting for you at the Lindsay Garden Club just around the corner from where you live.
Entertainment in Lindsay is plentiful but there are two places I must tell you about.
Firstly, we have the Century Theatre on Kent Street in the downtown area. The theatre has three screens and a great sound system. They play three first run movies each week and guess what, each movie will only cost a senior citizen $7. Hard to believe but true, really!
Secondly, Lindsay’s Academy Theatre for the Performing Arts was built in 1893 in Lindsay’s Historic Downtown. www.academytheatre.ca. The theatre is at the foot of Kent Street, within walking distance of fine restaurants, stores & boutiques. Did I mention that Kent Street is the widest main street in all of Ontario? Well, it is.
Other places of interest:
The Kawartha Art Gallery is located on Kent Street in the Library building. The Gallery has an ever-changing schedule of exhibits of Canadian artists as well as a selection of unique items in the Gift Shop that are handcrafted by accomplished local artisans in a variety of mediums. www.kawarthagallery.com
The Olde Gaol Museum - now this is something to see. Go North on Victoria Avenue off Kent Street. You can’t miss this building - it’s four blocks up between Francis Street and Colborne Street.
It’s not just a jail museum but a museum in an old jail. What was it like to be in jail in 1863? You’ll find out and that’s for sure. www.oldgaolmuseum.ca
An Introduction to Bobcaygeon
Bobcaygeon was settled in 1833 and is situated 150 kms northeast of Toronto, 60 kms from Peterborough or if you prefer 36 kms from Lindsay. It has evolved over the last 40 years into one of the nicest retirement communities in Ontario. The village itself is situated on three islands between Pigeon Lake at Lock 32 of the Trent-Severn Waterway and Sturgeon Lake. The Trent-Severn Waterway starts at Trenton on Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay on Lake Huron. Wow!, what a boat ride that would be!
Over the years a local visionary, Fred G. Reynolds, created the following waterfront communities of Alpine Village, Lakeview Estates, Victoria Place and Port 32. These communities are now retirement oriented with amenities such as a clubhouse, tennis courts, swimming pool, shuffle boards, boat slips and private beach parklands. Imagine, walk out your front door to the beach or private boat dock, jump in the boat and go fishing or deep water swimming. Life is great here.
By the way, if you are a nature lover, trail walker, snowshoe hiker or just an outdoor appreciator, Bobcaygeon in the City of Kawartha Lakes is the place to be. Seeing is believing, so come on up - the living here is great. I’d like to show you around.
The 3400 plus permanent residents and the other 12000 folks in the surrounding areas have a huge number of amenities to keep them busy. You can shop ‘til you drop downtown as well as keep your kitchen cupboards full at the two local supermarkets. In downtown Bobcaygeon, you can’t miss “Bigley’s”, a store that attracts shoppers from all over Ontario.
